The Farmhouse

A little peace and quiet, at the end of a gravel road

If you’re looking for a little peace and quiet, come stay at our little Farmhouse. Located on 100+ acres in Polk County, Missouri with a half-mile of river frontage, you’ll be surrounded by hayfields and cattle, with a path that leads down to the Sac River. Bring your fishing poles and enjoy everything this property has to offer.

This modest two-bedroom, one-bath house has everything you’ll need for a comfortable stay. You’ll have a large yard with a fire pit — wood provided — and a private area on the river to enjoy. The well water has been tested and is safe to drink, though it can have a slight sulfur smell.

We offer a discount for any stay of seven days or longer, and pets are welcome (fees apply).

Guest access

You’ll have the house to yourself. We’re typically on the property once or twice a day to do farm chores. On arrival we can show you around, or you’re welcome to venture out on your own — there’s a map in the laundry room to help you find your way to the river and around the farm.

The farm & the river

A half mile of river and a hundred acres to wander

The house is the small part. What guests come back for is everything around it — the water, the herd, the fire and the quiet.
  • Two camp chairs standing in the clear, shallow water at the private spot on the Sac River

A half mile of the Sac River

The river wraps the property for half a mile. Wade in, cast a line, or set a lawn chair right in the shallows and let the current do the rest.

  • Looking down at the Sac River from the bridge with a kayak pulled up on the bank, the start of the float back to the gravel bar behind the house

    Float from the bridge

When the water is high enough, put in at the bridge on the south side of the property and float all the way down to the gravel bar behind the house.

  • The private gravel bar on the Sac River beneath green summer timber

    Your own gravel bar

A wide, private gravel bar — the spot guests come back for. Skip rocks, hunt crawdads, or just sit in the sun with nobody else in sight.

  • Cast-iron tumbling crusher from a local rock quarry repurposed as a fire pit, ringed with camp chairs and stone seats at sunset

    Fire pit and s’mores

A cast-iron tumbling crusher from a local rock quarry, repurposed into a fire pit. Firewood is provided, and there is a second pit down on the river.

  • Round hay bales lined along a Polk County hayfield with cattle grazing beneath mature oaks

100+ acres of hayfields and cattle

This is a working farm. Round bales, black Angus on all sides, and a two-track lane that runs off into the timber.

  • The sun setting straight down a two-track lane through the timber on the farm

Deer, turkey and a sky full of stars

Deer, wild turkey and bald eagles all work this stretch of river. After dark, with no town glow for miles, the stars are genuinely startling.

They allowed us to use their side-by-side to get down to the river and a very large field the dog could run free in. We will definitely keep this bookmarked.

My wife and I had an amazing time with our infant and dog. They allowed us to use their side-by-side to get down to the river and a very large field the dog could run free in. If you’re going to bring a dog, just know the house is surrounded by cows, which was not a big deal for us. We will definitely keep this bookmarked to hopefully come back in the future!

Had a wonderful and peaceful getaway at Christy’s place. She was very responsive and kind. My kids especially enjoyed the river and seeing the cows out the window in the mornings! The stars at night are so beautiful too. The house was clean and comfortable, and the kitchen had all the amenities you’d need. She even had a toiletry cabinet with sunscreen, peppermint oil, a first aid kit, even a swim diaper. Such thoughtful details that made my parent heart happy!

Quiet and secluded — just what we were looking for. Seamless check-in, unexpected board games, and a responsive host. We booked largely for our two dogs, who thoroughly enjoyed the river! The use of Christy’s side-by-side was an added perk that made getting to the river a breeze. The cows were so curious and beautiful. For clarity for others: there are cows on all sides of the house — I thought we’d have a bit more space for the dogs to run, but there’s a pasture on the river drive that could be used for that. Great stay — hope to be back!

  • This is a working farm

Cattle are on all sides of the house and there are electric fences on the property. Please keep an eye on kids and dogs, and don’t be surprised by a curious cow at the window in the morning.

  • Well water with a hint of sulfur

The well water has been tested and is safe to drink. It can carry a slight sulfur smell — completely normal for this part of Missouri, and it doesn’t affect the taste of coffee.

  • You may see us doing chores

The house is entirely yours. We’re on the property once or twice a day to feed and check the herd, and we’re happy to say hello or leave you to it.

  • Wifi is about 13 Mbps

Plenty for email, maps and a movie. If your trip depends on heavy uploads or multiple 4K streams, plan accordingly — most guests treat the slow connection as the point.

  • The river is right there

There is a natural body of water on the property with no gate or fence around it. Water level and current change with the weather, so check conditions before swimming or floating.

  • Bring your fishing poles

There’s no tackle shop around the corner. Pack rods, bait and a Missouri fishing licence, plus water shoes for the gravel bar.
